Though more than 70% of the population in Punjab resides in rural areas, facilities of first classes Technical Education are available only in large towns and cities. A rural student could not get the benefits of higher technical education at the college level. Keeping this in view, an urgent need to start Vocational / Technical Courses in the Institutes providing education to the rural area was felt. To fulfillthis need G.T.B Education Trust Dakha under the pioneering leadership of Sardar Sher Singh Sekhon, I.R.S. (Retd.) decided to set up Guru Tegh Bahadur Instidute of Management & Technology, Dakha affiliated to the Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar in the year 1997 with the goal of providing education in the discipline management and technology. The aim is to provide managerial and technical education of high academic standard to the rural students. The institution Campus has spacious classrooms and vast play grounds. It has beautiful buildings and grassy lawns.
The inception of Punjab Technical University through an Act of State Legislature with effect from 26th Jan 1997 marks a watershed in the integreated development of technical education in Punjab. The idea was first to bring all the technical institutions and Engineering colleges under a common umbrella and then to establish and foster new institutions responsive to the emerging business and economic environment. The establishment to G.T.B Institute of Management & Technology. Dakha (Ludhiana) under the aegis of Punjab Technical University is the first sleep in the effort to generate and develop technical education in the ecologically clean Rural Environment of Dakha.
